This is hand-carved from Albesia wood, by a Fair Trade partner in Bali. Albesia is one of the fastest growing trees in the world and therefore is a perfect sustainable material - in some countries, it is even considered an invasive species, and having an incentive to cut back the trees is great for sustaining the local ecosystem.

In 1986, Shared Earth was just a little shop in York. Jeremy Piercy, founder and Managing Director, travelled to India after leaving school and wanted to do something to help redress the imbalance of wealth in the world. In the present day, this WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) certified brand is the largest carrier of Fair Trade products in the UK. They partner with dozens of groups from Asia and Africa to create a fairer, more sustainable world.
