Villages Calgary is closing its retail operation after more than 40 years of connecting Calgary shoppers with fair trade products and artisans around the world.

Since 1984, our customers have helped us support more than 98 artisan groups through their purchases. Over the years, we have purchased more than $13 million worth of goods directly from artisans, providing an important economic benefit to artisans, their families, and their communities. All of this was made possible by our incredible community in Calgary and across Canada.
Villages Calgary’s history was shaped by the people who supported fair trade in Calgary over more than four decades.
We recognize the volunteers, team members, community supporters, artisan partners, producer groups, and shoppers who contributed to Villages Calgary over the years.

Our History
More Than 40 Years of Fair Trade in Calgary
Villages Calgary has been part of Calgary’s fair trade community for more than 40 years.
The store originally operated as part of the 10,000 Villages network, importing and selling handmade fair trade goods that supported artisans and producer groups around the world.
After the broader 10,000 Villages store closures were announced in 2020, Villages Calgary was taken over privately by members of the community who wanted to continue the fair trade mission. The Calgary store continued operating independently.
Over the years, Villages Calgary worked with products and artisan communities connected to countries including Nepal, Guatemala, Rwanda, Peru, Ethiopia, Mexico, Cambodia, Ghana, India, Palestine, and Kenya.
