Bamboo is an easily renewable grass which can play an important part in tackling climate change. As a raw material it is excellent both for environmental and economic sustainability in rural areas. It takes up little space, grows to maturity in under 5 years, and can be harvested regularly. Bamboo grows freely in the woods and empty spaces close to our producer’s workshop. This is in a village near Ubud, Bali; they already live a sustainable lifestyle, growing their rice and other crops close by, and the sale of windchimes allows them to maintain the long-term sustainability of their community.
